Historical memoirs published by Wolfian Press Publications include "Broth Again For Dinner", written by the late Florence Coombe, and chronicling her childhood in a Carmarthenshire village in the 1920s and 1930s.
'Stepping Out Into Showbusiness' by Simone Lloyd-Davies chronicles her life, from growing up in London, through WW2, work at the Windmill Theatre, and subsequent TV work, as well as her life in Wales, up to her 95th year.
'The Falklands: My Experience' by war veteran J. R. Massey covers his return to the islands a quarter century after the Conflict, and retells the story of his war through photographs of how the islands look today.
'Rhymes and Remembrance' by Gillian Mawson is a compilation of poetry, with accompanying photographs, written by evacuees during the Second World War. Some were written at the time, others shortly after, and some from looking back across the decades.
During World War Two, some evacuees wrote poems which described their experiences of leaving home, the evacuation journey, and what it was like to be 'chosen' (or not) and fostered at journeys end. In this book, Gillian Mawson has compiled a selection of these poems to produce a valuable historical book, illustrated by many photographs throughout.
Florence is a young girl from Whitland, Carmarthenshire who battled poverty and hardship in the aftermath of the First World War, with her stamina and humour seeing her through the 1920's and 1930's. A significant contribution to the social historical narrative of South Wales, Broth Again For Dinner reminds us that even in the midst of deprivation, the human spirit is able to triumph.
Simone dreamed of becoming a showbusiness star during her nights in the air raid shelter in the garden of her home in Southall, during World War Two. After joining the A.T.S., she became part of the concert party entertaining the troops, eventually joining the Windmill Theatre. Stepping Out Into Showbusiness chronicles her professional life, and her marriage and life in rural Wales, along with her later work in entertainment.
J. R. Massey
The Falklands: My Experience is a book of landscape photography and history by Falklands War veteran J. R. Massey. Jack returned to the Falklands after three decades, and took dozens of photographs during his visits. Receiving not a little acclaim for his pictures, he wanted to make a book of them, to use them to show how the islands look now, but through the retelling of the major events of the conflict.
